Western Morning News – 10 teams booked. More advertising needed and to point out this is a green pointed event.

6. Education

On 15th Aug an education subcommittee met with club liaison officer Jonathan Lillycrop and membership development officer Tim Anderson. Also present, Tim Barnes.Tim A was surprised how little was charged for bridge teaching.
Exmouth – Want to have 'gentle' bridge with a bit of teaching.
Exeter – has 14 beginners. Improvers sessions could not take place as no second room was available. It is scheduled for mid-Jan at Broadclyst victory hall.
Newton Abbot – course on defence took place for 14 newish duplicate players. Hopes for a beginner's course in the Spring.
Plymouth – 1st year, Acol red book 7 or 8, 2nd year green book 4.
North – seem to be getting on all right with 6 tables.
Mike W suggested a need for an education co-ordinator for Devon..

7. County Teams

Western League – Andrew was not at the meeting but we accepted and read his 'brief report on the B and C teams'. With nearly 100 players interested in playing for Devon it is a large admin exercise. There has been considerable discussion on how Selectors carry out their duties. But he thinks the time to assess the new arrangements will be at the end of the season. At that time we can look again at the selection gridlines and see if they need revising.

8. Miscellaneous

The majority of DBA committee preferred to continue with face to face meetings rather than connect only though email. North section was especially keen despite the distance they have to travel to meetings.
It was agreed that there would be a prize and certificate awarded to two Devon players for their long term service to bridge clubs.

9. Date of Next meeting

Date for next DBA meeting – Wednesday 26th February 2020, 6pm at Devon Hotel Exeter EX2 8XU.

The meeting closed at 8 pm.
