DBA Trophies

Online Honours Boards

All winners from 2002 onwards are taken from the results. The details below are taken from 2017-trophies.pdf which also lists the names engraved on the trophies and was one of the sources for the pre-2002 winners on the online Honours Boards. Other sources are honours boards in Plymouth Bridge Club and those previously in Torquay Bridge Club.

Prior to Devon and Cornwall splitting into two bridge counties, the South West Pairs Championship was the major pairs competition and was the forerunner of the Devon Pairs for the Julia Chadwick Trophy. The South West Pairs then became an event run by the South Section. Therefore the earlier years on the honours board for the Devon Pairs were winners of the South West Pairs.

Urn shaped with lid both hallmarked London 1899/ As at July 2006 there is evidence of an engraved plate having been glued on one side of the base but no engraving now exists after 1994. The Cutty Sark Cup

Devon Swiss Teams.

Devon Mixed Pairs for Jack and Jill Bridge Cup

Jack and Jill Bridge Cup (on back) - Devon County C.B.A. Pairs Championship (on front), silver Sheffield 1936, re-discovered in 2006,
A list of winners is engraved on a black wooden base, last engraved 1984. The early winners (1937 to 1958) were not mixed which suggests a change of use of the cup at some stage.
1985 winners probably engraved on small plate, glued to base and subsequently lost
1986 to 2009 winners engraved on band on separate brown wooden disc. 2010 winners not engraved.

DCCBA Ladies Teams of Four then used for Pivot Teams of Four

Ladies Teams, last engraved 1991. Cup remounted on brown wooden base, last competed in 1991. Previous black plastic base 1974 to 1987.
Sep 2006 : re-brand for Pivot teams of Four backdated to 2000-01. Competition suspended 2007-08 onwards.

The Hardman Challenge Cup Livermead Cliff Hotel South West Championship “Pairs”

Silver Birmingham 1961. Cup engraved 1962 to 1987. Octagonal plastic base engraved from 1937 to 1961 seems to fit suggesting the cup replaced an earlier trophy. There are no gaps on the base for the missing years, suggesting no competition or no award that year.

Circular wooden base for unidentied trophy and event

Circular wooden base engraved from 1989 to 2009.
This almost certainly was awarded for the South West Pairs. Whether a base is missing with the years (1962 to 1988) or a new cup was awarded and is now missing is unknown.
