January 2022 Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the Committee Meeting of the DBA held online 11 January 2022

The meeting opened at 5pm.

1. Present: (Secretary, South) Doug Dunn; (Treasurer, North) Neil Marsden; (East) Jean Harrison; (North) Jacqui Munns

Apologies – Geoff C in the sad situation he finds himself, he is choosing not to attend meetings

2. Previous Minutes

An update was noted to the November minutes for the new date of the John Woolcott now being 22-23 Jan.
The minutes were approved, accepted (NM) and seconded (JM).

3. Section Reports

North Section

  • NM – Barnstaple BC have increased table money to £4 for f2f. Online teams continues monthly as does Sally’s Tuesday online sessions.

  • North Devon Congress 25-27 Feb 2022 is open for entries via North Devon website.

East Section

  • JH – Exmouth are successfully running f2f with 10 tables.

  • Exeter is trialing an experimental return to Isca from 25th Jan for 5 weeks. Online play continuing and going well.

  • East Section have set up a BridgeWebbs. Thanks were given to Nigel Richardson for setting up and running a new online teams league. Rather than giving prizes, money will be given to charity. 

  • DD – following a query, confirmed that players from outside the county are allowed to play in the John Woolcott.

South Section

  • Newton Abbot going well F2F play Thursday evenings.

  • Torquay are playing on Friday as well as Tuesday evenings at the Zion Hall. Afternoon bridge is run at the Precinct Centre attached to St Mary’s Church in St Marychurch.

  • Newton Abbot run f2f Thursday evenings and a relaxed afternoon session on Tuesdays at the Devon County FA Headquarters. Online BBO bridge is also on Tuesday evenings.

West Section

  • Maureen Baser wrote to say that she has closed Plymstock BC. She is offering equipment such as Bridgemates and bidding boxes to a club that might need them.

4. Competitions

  • Winter Pairs update – continuing on the first Wed of each month on RealBridge. Table money invoices including prize money have sent. 

  • Devon Teams of 8 - To be held online on Sunday Jan 30th starting at 11am, Director Jeremy Child. Entry fee to be calculated. Untill entry form is available please send team names to DBA Secretary. 

  • Devon Pairs (Julia Chadwick) – Agreed a possible date of Sunday 6th March to be held online as 2 sessions of 20 boards. NM to calculate entry fee.

  • DD – To email a bi-monthly bulletin to club Secretaries highlighting upcoming events

5. Treasurer's Report

  • NM – EBU are raising p2p rate from 40p to 42p in April. Committee agreed not to change the county contribution.

  • Rebate of moneys to Wednesday vPairs players is ongoing.  

6. Western League update

  • JM - Jgoing well - all results are on DBA website. Next round is vs East Wales on 15th Jan.
