Devon Congress 2018

Published April 2018

A large number of players who attended the Devon Congress at the TLH Toorak Hotel from 6 to 8 April 2018 reported illness after returning home from the final session on Sunday 8 April. From information received by the DBA and the General Manager of the Toorak, it has now been established that this was a norovirus type infection and not in any way caused by food served at the hotel. As there had not been any previously confirmed sickness at the hotel, it seems likely that it was brought into the hotel by a person or persons staying that weekend, or playing in the congress.

The hotel advises bridge players that if they have caught the virus then they must stay confined to their houses for at least 48 hours after the last time that they have been ill; use hand sanitiser on a regular basis after to prevent spreading the virus; if travelling to future events and are unwell to stay at home; if players do get ill during a congress to stay in their rooms until they feel better and not mix with other people until they are at least 24 hours clear of any symptoms.
